adventures in bicycling and a blogging oversight

Today I went on my first ride on the streets of Tampa. All I can say is thank goodness for sidewalks! I only had to travel 1 mile to the post office and Staples, but I had to cross a very scary intersection that has all sorts of turning lanes. Luckily I saw I sidewalk as soon as I rode onto the main drag. I’ve lived here for almost 3 years and never noticed the sidewalks because I was always in my car…I’m so glad I have an alternative to that now.

In other news, I bought my plane ticket to go home for Mardi Gras in less than 8 weeks. I assume I will be staying with some friends who live Uptown but haven’t ironed out those details just yet.

I’ve been reading various MLA wrap up blog posts, many of which discuss the emerging appreciation for technology and bloggers at MLA, and will post my thoughts here either later tonight or early tomorrow morning. Although the title of the panel I was on was entitled “Weblogs as Witness,” it was organized by the autobiographical writing group which maybe why it wasn’t as well attended by those who are also those blogging the convention. Nevertheless, I learned a lot from my fellow presenters and the discussion after was quite lively, again with an emphasis on the autobiographical strands of the research, so watch this space for that tomorrow.
